Fish that were roaming yesterday may now be positioned much closer to structure.
2. Slow Down
Try:

- Jigs

Give fish more time to inspect the bait.
3. Fish Deeper
Not every species immediately moves deep after a front, but deeper structure can become more important when shallow fish become difficult to trigger.
Think:
Shallow cover → first drop → secondary structure
rather than automatically running to the deepest part of the lake.

Is There a “Best” Barometric Pressure for Fishing?
You may see fishing charts suggesting very specific ranges such as:
29.8–30.2 inHg = best fishing
Treat these numbers cautiously.
There is no single barometric pressure that guarantees good fishing across every:
- Species
- Lake
- River
- Season
- Depth
- Weather pattern
A reading of 30.0 inHg might coincide with excellent fishing one day and poor fishing somewhere else.
A more useful question is:
What has the pressure been doing for the last 12–24 hours?
Trend matters more than obsessing over one reading.

Wind May Matter More Than the Number
Barometric changes frequently bring wind.
And wind can have a very direct effect on fishing.
Wind can:
- Move baitfish
- Break up sunlight
- Increase oxygen exchange
- Create current
- Push food toward shore
A productive rule is:
Follow the wind when conditions allow you to fish safely.

If fish aren't behaving as expected:
Change depth.
Change speed.
Change location.
Change lure profile.
The weather gives you clues.
The fish give you the answer.

Barometric pressure and fishing are connected, but not through a simple “high is bad, low is good” rule.

After a front:
